The Mega Millions jackpot is climbing higher and higher, reaching an incredible $800 million for the Tuesday, September 10 drawing.

This marks the seventh-largest jackpot in the game's history, with only six previous jackpots exceeding $1 billion. Other notable jackpots include a $1.537 billion win in South Carolina in 2018 and a $1.348 billion win in Maine in 2023.

No winner claimed the jackpot in the Friday night drawing, fueling the excitement for the upcoming draw. The winning numbers were 6, 23, 41, 59, and 63, with the Mega Ball 25.

While no one hit the jackpot, several lucky players won smaller prizes. Six tickets across the country matched five numbers, winning $1 million each. One ticket in Ohio was worth $2 million due to the Megaplier option. Additionally, 49 tickets matched four numbers and the Mega Ball, winning $10,000 or $20,000 with the Megaplier.

Get ready to win

To participate in this thrilling lottery game, you'll need to purchase a ticket. Tickets are available in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Each ticket costs $2, and you can increase your potential winnings by adding the optional Megaplier for an extra $1.

Drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday night at 11:00 PM ET. You can purchase tickets up to 15 minutes before each drawing.

A look back at Mega Millions

Mega Millions is one of the most popular lottery games in the United States, offering players the chance to win life-changing jackpots. Its history dates back to 1996.

The game began as "The Big Game" in six states: Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Virginia. In 1998, a Tuesday drawing was added to increase player interest, followed by New Jersey joining the game in 1999.

In 2002, the game was renamed "Mega Millions" and expanded to include New York and Ohio. Texas joined in 2003, and in 2005, California became part of Mega Millions, solidifying its position as the country's most widely played multi-state jackpot game.

A historic cross-selling agreement with Powerball was implemented in 2010, significantly increasing the number of participating states. Mega Millions has since set several world records for the largest lottery jackpots, with the current record being $1.602 billion won in Florida in 2023.

Over the years, Mega Millions has undergone several changes to enhance the player experience. These include changes to the game matrix, the introduction of a variable starting jackpot, and the option to purchase "Just the Jackpot" tickets.

Your chance to win

With the Mega Millions jackpot climbing to an astounding $800 million, now is the time to purchase your ticket and dream of what you would do with such a massive prize. Whether you're hoping to retire early, travel the world, or simply make a difference in the lives of others, winning the Mega Millions jackpot could change everything.

Enjoy Mega Millions, and please remember to play responsibly.
