A Pennsylvania Lottery player is celebrating a life-changing win after their Cash 5 with Quick Cash ticket matched all five winning numbers, securing them a hefty $878,000 prize. The winning ticket was purchased at Gerrity's Supermarket on Meadow Avenue in Scranton. The store will also receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the jackpot ticket.

The winner must claim their prize soon. The deadline to claim the main Cash 5 prize is one year from the drawing date. Quick Cash prizes must be claimed within one year of purchase. If you have the winning ticket, contact the Pennsylvania Lottery at 1-800-692-7481.

What is Cash 5 with Quick Cash?

Cash 5 with Quick Cash offers the chance to win a big jackpot every day. Unlike some lotteries, Cash 5 awards winners a lump sum payout, so there are no annuities involved. Every Cash 5 ticket also includes a Quick Cash game, giving you an instant shot at winning $2 or $6.

How to play

To play Cash 5 with Quick Cash, simply select five numbers from 1 to 43. You can choose your own numbers or opt for quick picks generated by the computer. Matching all five drawn numbers wins the jackpot, while prizes are also awarded for matching two, three, or four numbers. Each $2 wager includes both the main Cash 5 game and one Quick Cash game. If any of your chosen numbers match the winning numbers in your specific Quick Cash game, you win the corresponding prize displayed.

The history of the Pennsylvania Lottery

The Pennsylvania Lottery has a rich history dating back to 1971. Its launch in 1972 began with a 50-cent ticket offering weekly drawings and a $1 million grand prize, initially aiming to provide property tax relief for Pennsylvania seniors.

The first game itself, featuring a $50,000 top prize, saw four $1 million winners in just six months. Even more remarkable was the $57.7 million in net revenue generated by the end of the first year, exceeding projections by nearly double.

This early success solidified the lottery's potential as a significant funding source for programs benefiting older Pennsylvanians, a mission that continues to this day.

Giving back

The Pennsylvania Lottery is unique in that it dedicates all its proceeds to programs that benefit older Pennsylvanians. These programs go beyond just entertainment, providing essential support for seniors in the state. Through the responsible sale of lottery products, the Pennsylvania Lottery generates critical funds for programs like:

  • Local services, senior centers, and meals programs
  • Low-cost prescription assistance
  • Free and reduced-fare transportation
  • Care services
  • Property tax and rent rebates

In the last year alone, the Pennsylvania Lottery contributed over $1 billion to these programs, making a difference in the lives of countless older Pennsylvanians.

Enjoy the Pennsylvania Lottery, and please remember to play responsibility.
