An Oakland County man almost fell over after learning he became the first player to win the top prize playing the Michigan Lottery's $300,000,000 Extraordinaire instant game, leaving two more top prize tickets up for grabs.

Knowing he won before leaving the store

We all have our own way of scratching these instant tickets. While some players like to scratch each spot slowly and see the ticket play out, others will just scratch off the barcode and scan it to see if it's a winner or not.

This lucky 36-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, is one of the barcode scanners. He told lottery officials that he likes to play the scratch-off tickets here and there.

He recalled:

When I bought this ticket, I scratched the barcode and scanned it before leaving the store. I got a message to file a claim at the Lottery office, so I finished scratching it off when I got home.

When the man got home, he finished scratching the ticket:

When I saw it was a $6 million winning ticket, I kept saying: 'I'm going to fall over!' Winning this amount of money is such a blessing.

The lucky winner bought the winning ticket at the BP of Farmington Hills, located at 29434 Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills.

Fulfilling his dreams

The lucky player recently made his way to the lottery headquarters in Lansing to claim his prize. He had the option of choosing to receive the winnings as annuity payments for the full amount or a one-time lump sum payment of about $4.1 million.

He chose the lump sum payment and told lottery officials he planned on buying a house and starting a business with his money.

Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli stated:

Winning $6 million would be a dream come true for any lottery player. This lucky player is the first top-prize winner on our newest $50 instant game — $300,000,000 Extraordinaire — and the big win is going to help him fulfill his dream of starting a business.

Two more top prizes are available

The $300,000,000 Extraordinaire instant game launched in August 2024 from the Michigan Lottery. Since that time, players have won more than $64 million on the instant game.

For the game, each ticket costs $50 and gives players the opportunity to win prizes ranging from $50 up to the top prize of $6 million. While $64 million in prizes have been claimed already, lottery officials said there is still more than $274 million in prizes remaining, which includes two $6 million top prizes, 67 $50,000 prizes, and 226 $5,000 prizes. There are also over 2 million prizes remaining for the lower-tier prizes, ranging from $50 up to $500.

In 2023, lottery players in Michigan won almost $1.8 billion playing instant games, which can be purchased at retailers across the state.

Enjoy playing the Michigan Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
