A woman in Tennessee is behind bars after police say she allegedly stole thousands of dollars in scratch-off tickets from her employer.

Lottery Commission prompts investigation

While the suspect, 35-year-old Siearrah Truhn, was working at a convenience store on Maryville Pike in Knoxville, her employer didn’t seem to have any idea of what was going on.

However, it was a call from the Lottery Commission that prompted the investigation, according to an arrest report obtained by WVLT.

After that call, the store owner spent hours on the phone trying to track down what had happened, police said.

The owner eventually decided that Truhn had taken the tickets, in which he informed the Knoxville Police Department about.

Suspicions were already high

After receiving the call from the store’s owner, police then made their way to the Kroger on Chapman Highway in Knoxville. They spoke with employees, who said Truhn had redeemed several thousand dollars in scratched tickets.

The employees were suspicious of this, as they said they kept the tickets and reported it to the lottery commission, the police reports state.

The arrest

Police talked with Truhn, who said she had reimbursed her employer for the tickets. However, the owner told police that the amounts did not match up.

Truhn was arrested and accused of stealing between $40,000 and $50,000 worth of scratch-off lottery tickets.

She was charged with theft and computer offenses and booked into jail on a $10,000 bond, officials said.

No arrest here, but possible tears

It was bad news for Truhn after her arrest, but another Tennessee woman had some good news come her way and it might even bring a tear or two to your eyes!

Charissa A. of Huntingdon won $1 million dollars playing Powerball during the October 12, 2024, drawing.

When picking her winning numbers, Charissa had her brother, who has passed away, in mind. She told lottery officials, “All of the numbers I pick to play are related to him.” How sweet is that?

He was looking down on her during that October 12 drawing as she ended up matching the five winning white ball numbers drawn to score the $1 million prize.

The winning white ball numbers for that drawing were 5, 14, 20, 41, and 57, and the Powerball number was 6 with a Power Play of 3X. She purchased the winning ticket at Huck’s Food & Fuel, located at 23 Veterans Drive N. in Huntingdon.

Charissa recently made her way to the Tennessee Lottery Headquarters in Nashville with her family to claim her winnings. She said, “I think of him all the time,” regarding her brother.

With the winnings in her hand now, she said she plans on paying off her house and other debts, as well as putting some of it in savings. She is also planning on adding even more fun to what is already a festive annual Halloween display at her home.

Enjoy playing the Tennessee Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
