Do you choose the Power Play option when purchasing your Powerball tickets?
The Power Play came through big for one lucky Tennessee Lottery winner over the weekend! Because they chose the Power Play option, their $50,000 win turned into a $150,000 win for the lucky player from Gallatin.
The winning ticket
The $150,000 winning Powerball ticket from the April 20 drawing matched four numbers plus the Powerball. That winning combination is worth $50,000, but by choosing the Power Play option, it increased to $150,000.
The winning white ball numbers for the April 20 drawing were 4, 35, 41, 44, and 58, and the Powerball number was 25, with the Power Play being 3X.
The winning ticket was sold at Foxland Market, located at 200 Douglas Bend Road in Gallatin.
The lucky winner must claim their prize within 180 days from the drawing date on which the prize was won.
How does Power Play work?
When filling out your play slip for Powerball, players can add the Power Play option for an additional $1.00 per play.
Before the Powerball numbers are drawn, a Power Play number (2, 3, 4, 5, or 10) is randomly selected. The 10 multiplier is only available for selection when the advertised annuity jackpot is $150 million or less.
After the drawing takes place, if you happen to win any non-jackpot prize (except matching 5 of 5 white ball numbers), your regular prize amount will be multiplied by the Power Play number drawn. If you added the Power Play option to your ticket and you do happen to match all five white balls, then you instantly win $2 million.
Education wins in Tennessee
For the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation, it operates entirely from the revenue it generates through the sale of its products.
Since January 20, 2004, the Lottery has raised more than $7 billion to fund designated education programs, including scholarships, grants, and K-12 after-school programs. To break it down even more, the Tennessee Lottery said that more than 2 million Lottery-funded scholarships and grants have been awarded to Tennessee students. These scholarships and grants include HOPE Scholarships, Wilder-Naifeh grants, and Drive to 55 initiatives such as Tennessee Promise. Part of the money raised by the Tennessee Lottery is also used to help support after-school programs and an energy-efficient school initiative.
The Tennessee Lottery states that funding from the Lottery has helped the state become a role model nationwide for helping make college degrees and certificates a reality for students throughout the state. The Lottery is committed to the strategies that help drive its success and help achieve its core mission of maximizing funds for education in the state.
In addition to the educational programs winning in Tennessee, players and Lottery retailers have also been big winners. Players have won more than $20.2 billion in prizes, and Lottery retailers have earned more than $1.9 billion in commissions.
Enjoy playing the Tennessee Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
