Needing a little luck in the Michigan Lottery? You may want to head over to Mount Pleasant to buy your tickets from this lucky retailer!

The luckiest lottery spot in the state?

A lottery retailer in Mount Pleasant is making waves, as some are saying they could be the luckiest spot in Michigan to buy your lottery tickets. Why? Border's Corner Store has sold three tickets that have turned into huge lottery prizes — including two within the last few months!

No one can guarantee that a winning lottery ticket will be sold. Border's Corner Store, located at 7024 East Pickard Road in Mount Pleasant, has been a lucky place to make those Lottery purchases recently.

The Michigan Lottery Commissioner, Suzanna Shkreli, said:

Congratulations to the lucky winners on their life-changing prizes, and to the owner of Borders Corner Store for selling these huge prizes. In many ways, retailers like Borders Corner Store are the face of the Michigan Lottery, and because of their exceptional customer service to our players, the Lottery has been able to contribute more than $1 billion to Michigan schools for five consecutive years.

The first big lottery win

The first big lottery win for Border's Corner Store came in January 2023. At that time, a Gladwin County woman, who chose to remain anonymous, purchased a Black & Gold instant game and ended up winning $1 million. For selling the winning tickets, Border's earned a $2,000 bonus commission.

The lucky player told Lottery officials at the time:

I like playing the instant games and I always stop to buy one on my way home from work. I stopped at the store after work as usual one night and decided to try the Black & Gold game. I started scratching the ticket when I got home and when I saw I had won $1 million, I was in shock!

Lucky retailer sells Lucky for Life big winner

The next big win for Border's Corner Store came on February 20, 2024. For that big win, Dina Russell of Flushing won a $25,000 a year for life prize when playing the Lucky for Life draw game. Again, for selling the winning ticket, Border's received a $2,000 bonus commission.

Russell told Lottery officials:

I play Lucky for Life regularly. I pulled up to the gas station to purchase a ticket, but before going in, I checked the Lucky for Life ticket I had in my purse by scanning it on the Lottery app. When $25,000 a year for life came up on the screen, I was thrilled!

When Russell claimed her prize, she opted for the one-time lump sum payment of $390,000 rather than annuity payments of $25,000 a year for 20 years or life, whichever is greater.

The most recent big lottery win

The latest big lottery-winning ticket sold at Border's Corner Store was on April 30, when an Isabella County Man, who chose to remain anonymous, won a Fantasy 5 jackpot of $115,000. Border's received another $2,000 bonus commission check for selling the winning ticket.

This was not the first time at Border's for the lucky winner, who told Lottery officials that the first Lottery ticket he ever purchased was from Border's Corner Store. He said:

It's crazy that years later, I purchased a $115,000 winning Fantasy 5 ticket from the same store I started playing lottery at.

'Lucky' retailer status

After the three big wins, Michigan Lottery officials have dubbed Border's Corner Store as a lucky retailer, and they will gladly accept that honor.

The store owner, Sherrie Border, said:

We were thrilled when we sold a $1 million winning ticket last year, and now having sold two more huge prizes this year has been very exciting for us! Being a 'lucky' retailer has brought in a lot of business, and the commissions we've received have been a nice bonus for the store. Congratulations to the lucky winners!

Enjoy playing the Michigan Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
