The Bear State has a new millionaire! A lottery player from Jonesboro, Arkansas, recently claimed her $1 million prize from the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Claim Center.

She won her prize by playing the $1,000,000 Cash instant-win game. The woman purchased her winning ticket at Kum & Go #390, located on Southwest Drive in Jonesboro.

The player, who chose to remain anonymous, told the Arkansas Lottery that she likes to play on a regular basis. In this instance, she bought the $20 $1,000,000 Cash scratch-off ticket on her day off. She stopped in at the Kum & Go to use the restroom and purchased the first ticket to catch her eye. At the time, she thought:

Not that I'm going to win anything.

Excited to play the game, she scratched off her ticket while she was still in the store and immediately saw she'd won a big prize. The player said:

When I hit that—y'all don't even want to know my first thought.

As soon as she realized she'd won, she called her sister to let her know. She was so excited that she could barely speak and was only able to say her name a few times before she was able to tell her sister about her $1 million prize. Next, she shared her great news with her daughter and grandchildren.

The Jonesboro winner intends to use her prize money to pay off her truck and land and purchase a headstone for her son. She intends to keep playing the lottery but says she's going to keep working. She said:

I'm not old enough to retire.

How to play $1,000,000 Cash

This is a $20 instant-win game with a top prize of $1 million. To play, remove the eight stacks of cash symbols to reveal the winning numbers. Then, remove the 25 dollar symbols to reveal your numbers. If any of your numbers match the winning numbers, you win the prize amount shown by that number. Next, scratch off the bonus box. If you reveal a gold bar symbol, you win the prize amount shown. If you reveal a diamond symbol, you win double the prize amount shown. The prize range for this game is $20, $30, $40, $50, $100, $500, $1,000, $5,000, $10,000, $50,000, and $1 million. To date, there remains one $1 million prize.

How the lottery helps Arkansas

The Arkansas Lottery was launched in 2009. Since then, it has raised over $1.3 billion to support scholarships for more than 720,000 students throughout the state. More than $4,8 billion has been awarded in lottery prizes. Eric Hagler, ASL executive director, recently said:

“We are in the entertainment business; however, we never lose sight of our objective of helping Arkansas students pursue a higher education. This mission will continue to have a long-term positive economic impact on our state.”
