About the South Dakota Lottery
After voters approved amending the state's constitution to allow a lottery, the South Dakota Lottery launched in 1987. In 1989, South Dakota became the first state to offer a video lottery. The next year, the lottery joined the Multi-State Lottery Association. Today, players can pick from the multi-state games of Lucky for Life, Powerball, Lotto America, and Mega Millions. The South Dakota Lottery also offers its own jackpot game, Dakota Cash.
Since it started, the South Dakota Lottery has invested more than $1 billion to support education, the environment, and gambling addiction treatment services in the state.
The lottery has also contributed millions toward drinking water and wastewater improvement projects as well as recycling and waste disposal programs.
